The rumors of my death have been greatly exaggerated.
Hello, I am spks_wtht_n_mtn. That is short for Speaks Without An Emotion (not to be confused with Wins Without A Knife), as there is a 15 character limit on names. This is my second live journal. The first was purged many years ago, lacked much content. So, if you are reading this I guess that you may have some desire to know something about who I am, what I stand for, what my interests are, or something else along those lines. So...

My name is derived from a statement a girl once said about me. She said that I "speak without emotion". Meaning that my speech is often exhibits a flat affect, i.e. monotone. By adding the article the name becomes more similar to the English translation of the name of a character from a Jimmy Wang Yu movie named Wins Without A Knife, who employs hidden knives to win. You can read what you want into the meaning of my name, but I really am just fond of quotes, obscure references, and Jimmy Wang Yu.

My picture is taken from my old live journal account. It is of a Russian, Jewish writer know for his works in Yiddish.

The title of the post is a quote from the author Samuel Clemens, who's work I do not care for. I would have preferred an Abe Vigoda quote but I could not find one that fit. Also, at one point in time, when was taking a break from school, one of my high school teachers was spreading rumors of my death.

The year of this post is taken from the outcome of a population study I created based on trends in the 1960's, but 100 years sooner as the value was two large. As for the month and day, that is not the actual month and day, but what it is should be obvious, or at least ubiquitous.

I should, and did, add that I do not proof read any of my entries.

I think my step mother suspects I may be gay...
I am fairly certain that I am not.

Also my father suspects that I am anorexic.

PC Games for 2010
Supreme Commander 2
This is coming out in march. It should run on 豬八戒, though a newer GPU, I have a HD3850 w/ 512MB, may be merited but I do not know how much performance will be lost due to a PCI Express 1.1 mobo. Overall I think the game will be a let down, though if improvements to the AI are made which reduce micromanagement and friendly fire it could be fairly good, though I am concerned about modability.

Bioshock 2
Sounds like an improvement over the original though the DRM seems like a pain.

Fallout New Vegas
Sounds like what Fallout 3 should have been, if it had to be 3d that is.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl
S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky
S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat
Not much to say about this series but it seems worth checking out.

ArmA: Armed Assault (ArmA: Combat Operations)
ArmA: Queen's Gambit
ArmA II: Operation Arrowhead
The official squeals to Operation Flashpoint, based on VBS 1.

Starcraft 2
It is a RTS, there does not seem to be a lot of promising RTS games coming out these days.

There are some issues on ATI cards, and currently this is not near a fully functional stable release, but this looks to be one of the most promising games of the decade, particularly with its support of OTA maps, and more OTA like graphics, interface, and gameplay. Looks more promising than TA Spring, which is now just Spring, I hope that this project does not die (even if it does it is open source...)

Master of Magic - Implode's Multiplayer Edition
Remake of Master of Magic by one guy, Implode. Stalled for the last quarter of 2009, but it looks like Implode is back. This is the most complete and advanced Master of Magic remake so I hope that things go well this year.

Writer's Block: Wake up and smell the coffee
Given the choice, would you rather sleep in or eat a delicious breakfast? Is there any food you love so much that you'd wake up at dawn or travel a great distance just to eat it?

It depends on the specifics but generally I choose to wake up early, before the sun rises, and not eat around noon or later. Sleeping late would probably not get in the way of eating a delicious breakfast, as I would either have to make it for myself, or go out to eat it, and most restaurants that serve breakfast tend to serve it late into the day. In fact most places to go to eat breakfast are not open early enough in the day for me to eat their before I have work. Ignoring the reality of my situation, assuming that it was offered to me by someone, I would probably choose not to sleep in and go eat a delicious breakfast, as that is a less frequent occurrence than me sleeping in, and if I was not involving other people I could eat after sleeping in.

As for foods that could get me to wake up at dawn, there are many, in fact the promise of anything that is hard to find, unusual, or exotic for the local area would probably be able to get me up. If it is particular fresh, prepared in an unusual manner, or with particular care, that could also get me up. As for great distances, I would travel to other countries, and/or thousands of miles, to eat something interesting, unique, or unavailable at home, assuming I had the time and money. Also this reminds me: 猫是食物,不是朋友.

Writer's Block: Single pride day
Given that we're less than a week out from Valentines, how do you feel about the approaching holiday? Will you participate or abstain? If you're not in a relationship, how will you celebrate your single status?

I was unaware, until yesterday, when a friend mentioned it, that Valentine's Day, assuming that Valentines is Valentine's Day, is coming up soon. Regarding Valentine's Day, I have no particular feeling for against the holiday, and overall it has little affect on me, though when my parents were married sometimes we would do things as a family. As for participation in the holiday, I will continue to do what I usually do, which is to humor those around me as long as it does not inconvenience me to too great and extent. As I am not, at least to my knowledge, in a relationship, at least of the type that this question is implying, the last part of the question applies to me, and I will answer it by celling that I will not be celebrating my single status.

Writer's Block: Superbowl madness or sadness?
If you're in the U.S., will you watch all or part of the Superbowl? Do you have a favorite team? If you're not American, what do you think about Superbowl Sunday?

I am in the US, and I will watch none of the Superbowl.
I do not have a favorite football team.
I am American, so it seems I will have no thoughts on this issue, other than I know of more people who will not watch it, than I know of those who will watch it.

Writer's Block: Educated guess
How has your education prepared you for your current or intended career? Do you wish you had taken a different path academically? Would you consider transferring or going back to school?

My education has been a fairly long, laborious, and complex journey that does not look like it will end any time soon. Whatever my intended career is, my experiences in education will surly come in hand, though I think that the failures of the educational systems I have been involved with will be the most beneficial in the most careers. No, on second thought the failures were not beneficial, suffering from gross incompetence, and more, to the point of illegality, does not seem like a particularly good education. That is not to say that I did not have numerous skilled, competent teachers.

Do I wish that I had taken a different path? I do not know if I could have altered my path at the point that it mattered most, or earlier. Given the response of the state to the actions of my school system, I assume that there are many places that I would have been better off.

Higher education has been far easier, more reasonable, and I would have to say that the worst of the teachers that I have had, pales in comparison to what I had experienced in earlier. As for what courses I have taken, I think that I should not have given up on Japanese, and East Asian studies, so easily, but other than that there were few things that I could have done differently.

I am transferring to anther school.

Writer's Block: It wasn't me.
Did you ever do anything in your youth that you lived to regret? Do you think you ultimately learned from it or do you wish you could go back in time and do it over?

I assume there are many things that I did that I later lived to regret, however I have also come to no longer regret doing those things, whatever they may be. What I regret far more are the things that I did not do, and if I could go back in time and do things over, I think I would, or at least try to, act very differently. Even if it is just going to England for a few days that one time, ordering snake with spicy salt at a restaurant, or something else rather minor, I should have taken the opportunities I was given to experience new and different things when they are offered to me. There are very different things that I regret not doing more but they are more abstract and private, and overall I feel that I have made changes in my behavior as to live in a way that would produce less missed opportunities, so I feel that I have learned from what I regret.

Writer's Block: Snark, who goes there?
Have you ever said something to an online friend that you would never say in person? Do you think it's easier to discount real feelings when a relationship takes place largely online? Can the emotional disconnect become habit-forming?

Yes, people know me in different ways, and depending on how they know me I choose to represent myself in different ways, to place emphasis on different aspects of myself. There are things that I would discuss with strangers that I would rather not discuss with people who know me well, and things that I would rather discuss with a trusted, long time friend than a stranger. Overall the difference is largely due to what is appropriate in context and how comfortable I feel in relation to the media and the people involved.

A relationship such as friendship, something more abstract, or meaning something romantic or sexual? In regards to friendship, no. In regards to something more abstract, yes, as I do not know the person nor have many ideas about them. I may even doubt their actual existence, or assume that they are there, or that they are misrepresenting themselves to gain something at my expense. Often this is true, one only has to look at craigslist, a poorly protected online forum, or their email to see how much spam gets in. As for something romantic or sexual, I have no idea.

Can the emotional disconnect become habit-forming? I assume a person could develop a physiological dependency on such a 'disconnect', though I do not know how that would occur, or what such a 'disconnect' even means.
